On Wednesday night the Semi Finals of the 3A and 4A Tournament tipped off. In the 3A tournament St.Thomas More took on Steveston London and Lord Byng took on Byrne Creek. On the 4A side Kitsilano faces St.George’s and Killarney plays Vancouver College.
Throughout the regular season Steveston-London had lost to St.Thomas More twice. Once at the Howard Tsumura Invitational by 14 and St.Thomas More’ s Chancellor Tournament by 17. The Sharks knew it was going to be a battle when they had to face them in the Semi Final match up. The Sharks were able to edge the Knights 80-76 in a tight game. Shark’s Fardaws Aimag finished with 43 points 23 rebounds and 3 assists. Contributing to the win Ahmed Mohamud with 15 points and Isaiah Hunter with 14 points.
On the other side of the 3A Lower Mainland bracket was Lord Byng Grey Ghosts and Bryne Creek Bulldogs. Byrne Creek was able to get off to a strong start extending their lead to 25. As the second half started Lord Byng was able to bring the game back into a 5 point game. But it was not enough time as the Bulldogs edged the Grey Ghosts 69-62. Both Steveston London and Byrne Creek qualify for Provincials.
The first match up in the 4A Lower Mainland Semi finals was Kitsilano Blue Demond and St.George’s Saints. In the last meeting in a exhibition match up earlier this month the Blue Demons barely edged Saints 79-76. Saints was missing their two starters Jacob Van Santen and Adrian Bacic. Tonight the St.George’s Saints were able to defeat the Kitsilano Blue Demons 73-58. Now the Saints have clinched a spot in Provincials.
In the Final match up of the night was Killarney Cougars and Vancouver College Fighting Irish in the 4A Lower Mainland Championships. The Fighting Irish defeated the Cougars 90-87 and set the finals between the St.George’s Saints and Vancouver College Fighting Irish. This will be the third meeting between the Saints and the Irish. The last two games the Irish defeated the Saints but with the roll Saints is on, it will be a nail biter Friday night.
