Vancouver, BC - For the first time in eight years, Canada Basketball is returning to Vancouver. Announced earlier this week, the Pacific Rim Classic will match Team Canada and Team China for a pair of international exhibition games in Vancouver and Victoria later this month.
The Canadian National Team will be spending a week in Vancouver for training camp and using these friendly games as a tuneup prior to the Americas regional qualifying games they will play this summer for next summers 2019 FIBA World Cup - which itself will send seven teams directly to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Outside of the US, Canada boasts the most NBA players with 14 players having put a jersey on this past year. The training camp will host 18 invitees including eight current NBA players. The invitee list includes three players hailing from B.C. in Kelly Olynyk (Kamloops) and Tommy and Phil Scrubb (Richmond) + Coach Jay Triano who played / coached collegiately at SFU.
Canada will host a two day training camp at The Richmond Olympic Oval on June 20 and 21 before playing the two exhibition games. The first of the two games is set to tip-off on Friday June 22, 2018 at 7:00pm @ Rogers Arena with the teams travelling to Victoria to play the second game on Sunday June 24th @ Save-On Foods Memorial Centre at 5:00pm. Team Canada will then travel out east for World Cup Qualifiers against the Dominican Republic on June 29 and U.S. Virgin Islands.
