King George wins big in Lower Mainland Semi-Finals

A balanced attack of six players in double figures by the Dragons helps them clinch a spot at Provincials.

#1 King George Dragons vs #4 R.C. Palmer Griffins

Richmond Oval - Palmer won the opening tip-off but the first points came from #17 Boris Obradovic of King George on a tip-in on the offensive glass. #6 Seyoung Choi would follow that up with a three. #42 Andrew Reddy would score the first bucket for the Griffins inside in transition. #21 Sorosh Sidiqi hit a three, but #17 Boris Obradovic would score two more buckets for the Dragons and #6 Seyoung Choi would add another “3” for an early 12-5 lead. #23 Kevin Li of Palmer would sub in and score two quick baskets making an immediate impact for the Griffins. #5 Dhol Baboth would answer by hitting a straight on “3”, with the shooters touch, from straight on. #12 Steven Ang of Palmer would answer with a “3” of his own. #13 Mohab Mundadi would get a steal and get out in transition before dropping off to #6 Seyoung Choi for an easy two. The score after one quarter was 23-12 in favour of the Dragons.

#42 Andrew Reddy would score the first bucket for the Griffins in the quarter off a nice feed inside from #21 Sorosh Sidiqi. On their first possession King George would grab an offensive rebound and work it back inside for another short jumper from #17 Boris Obradovic. A huge block from #42 Andrew Reddy seemed to energize the Palmer team, but they still trailed 31-16 with 6:27 to play. Out of a timeout, King George turned up their defence which sparked a 21-0 run starting with a pair of buckets each from #11 Raz Gugasyan and #13 Mohab Mundadi. The run would continue with another “3” from Seyoung Choi and layup from #13 Mohab Mundadi. R.C. Palmer would finally stop the run as Andrew Reddy hit a freethrow, but by 1:44 the score was 46-17 in favour of the Dragons. #7 Quentin Bautita would hit a “3” before the end of the quarter but #9 Nikola Guzina would answer with one for the Dragons on a nice play executed out of a timeout. The Dragons would put one more in for good measure at the buzzer as #9 Nikola Guzina got out in transition for two. Score at the half 51-20 for the Dragons.

#6 Seyoung Choi and #42 Andrew Reddy would score the first baskets for their teams respective teams in the second half. King George would continue to capitalize on their size grabbing a number offensive rebounds allowing for second and third chances. #5 Duol would get a few buckets as a result of these extra attempts, including an “and-1”. The combination of defence and great ball movement on offense allowed the Dragons to build a 76-26 lead with two minutes to play in the third. #12 Steven Ang would end the run with a deep “3” which made the score 80-29 after 30 minutes

#16 Alec Lissounov got a bucket off some nice ball movement on the first possession of the quarter for King George. #21 Sorosh Sidiqi hit a three for the first bucket of the quarter for Palmer. He would score another jumper in the middle of the key. Palmer would continue their run with a nice end out of bounds play that freed #12 Steven Ang for “3”. #21 Sorosh Sidiqi would add on one more three to keep the run going. #4 Kenneth Villanueva would end the run with a floater for King George towards the end of the game. Final score was 84-40 in favour of the Dragons.

Congratulations to the Dragons on the win. The King George Dragons have now qualified for Provincials and will play for the Lower Mainland Championship on Thursday at 8:00pm at the Richmond Oval. R.C. Palmer will play for 3rd/4th and the final 2A spot at Provincials against St. Patricks on Thursday 4:30pm at The Oval.
