SFU Women's Basketball Newsletter, November 2016

Now that we have gotten into games, things are starting to heat up.
November 17, 2016

A Note from Head Coach Bruce Langford

Now that we have gotten into games, things are starting to heat up.  We learn more about ourselves each day.  After two tourneys and five games we have seen several types of ways to play basketball.  We opened with Cal Baptist the then number two team in America.

In a close fought game that came down to the last minute we lost. We showed that we can compete and come back.  We have since won our last 4 games.  At times we have shown good competitiveness.  A few of players have shot well but we have not been the shooting team in games that we see in practice.  We need to fix that.  Most games we have met our goal of being good on the boards.  With the blend of skill sets that we have we should show better chemistry on offense soon.  Certainly we are working on doing that.

The Alumni game this week should be a good chance to have some fun and mix with our ex players.  Then we are off to a hectic week, games around San Francisco Tuesday and Wednesday and home to two noon games on Friday and Saturday.  We have seen some flashes of brilliance from our seniors Ellen Kett and Meg Wilson.  Come watch as they lead us against a strong Cal Poly Pomona team in the back to back games.

I would like to thank Jessica for organizing the clothing sales and I want to thank any and all who bought something as it does help our team.  You can still buy something up to the 27th.

Make yourself a great day,

Wilson, Kett & Homer Named to Pre-Season All GNAC Team

Days after the squad was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll, three Clan players were selected to the Preseason All-GNAC Team.

Simon Fraser's Meg Wilson was chosen to the team for a third time. Wilson played in only two games last year before taking a medical redshirt. She scored 33 points with 16 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and two blocks in those two games before shutting down her season.

During the 2014-15 season Wilson averaged 12.9 points per game and a team high 8.7 rebounds.

Wilson's teammate Ellen Kett, who had a conference-best 7.1 assists per game, was also among the 15 players voted by conference coaches to the team. Kett was one of five players on the Clan averaging double-digit scoring. Elisa Homer also joined Wilson and Kett on the list. The junior scored a team-best 16.5 points per game, making 99 three-point field goals, which was the second best in the conference.

Simon Fraser and Western Washington were the only two schools with three players selected to the team.
