On Thursday the Kitsilano Blue Demons took on the St.George’s Saints.
Early in the season, the Blue Demons had plans to head up to Kelowna for their annual Western Canada Basketball Tournament which got cancelled. Then they had scheduled an exhibition match up with Saints.
St.George’s bench looked short as many players including Jacob Van Santen and Adrian Bacic were not on the starting line up due to injuries and flu.
Even with a short bench St.George’s stuck together. Saints started off strong as they went on a 10-4 but the Blue Demons quickly came back as they ended the half at 38 a piece.
In the second half, the blue demons were able to finish the third quarter with a 4 point lead. Then Saints started to slip a little and gave kitsilano their biggest lead of the game of 12 points. Coach Disbrow calls the boys to regroup and as the clock ticks down they start to come back.
With 13 seconds remaining, Saints down 4, #21 Justin Huang puts up a shot as the final buzzer sounds and a whistle goes. With the crowd in surprise to what happened. Justin gets fouled on his 3pt attempt and goes to shoot 3 free throws; and 2 seconds added back to the clock. He goes 2/3, Saints gets the offensive rebound as St.George’s #23 Mark Ephstein goes behind the 3pt line to force an overtime but the shot missed, the final buzzer sounds and Kitsilano barely edges St.George’s 79-76.
