Vancouver, B.C. - On March 31st, Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) UBC will be hosting their 3rd annual Hoops 4 Health 3-on-3 basketball tournament at UBC’s War Memorial Gym with proceeds benefiting the Heart and Stroke Foundation. AEPi is a fraternity at the University of British Columbia, established in 1999. The basketball tournament is the culmination of a fundraising campaign by AEPi UBC for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, inspired by one of their members who suffered a stroke at the age of 18. He has since fully recovered and today continues his mission of raising awareness about preventing stroke. "We started this as a passion project and it's been exciting to see so many teams from UBC's student body sign up to support...' shared Nitai of AEPi. This year, the organization’s goal is to raise $10,000 dollars.
Several local sponsors also joined forces to support the mission. "These are exactly the types of events we hope to promote here in BC." shared Mark Starkey of The Vancouver Basketball Academy "...when we sat down with the AEPi organizing leaders at our office, we knew right away this was a wonderful fit to get students on the basketball court for a good sweat, connect with their peers and grow the game of basketball on UBC's campus." Hoops 4 Health takes place at the historic War Memorial Gym, home of the UBC Thunderbirds varsity basketball teams. The tournament will feature over 20 teams across 3 divisions: men’s, women’s and co-ed from UBC and the Vancouver Basketball Community. The event also includes multiple raffles, food and beverages.
