PACWEST: Basketball Championships PREVIEW: Men’s Draw. Games tip-off Thursday, February 27, 2014 1PM at Douglas College

1. Langara College Falcons (20-1)First round bye. Play Friday at 8:00 pm in the semi-finals vs winner of #4 vs #5.The Falcons tied a PACWEST record with 20 wins this season, tieing their own record set in 2012-13.The Falcons finished first last season and won the Gold medal before taking Bronze at the CCAA National Championships.The Falcons only loss this season was to Quest (80-77) in Week 2, November 9.Forward Jitinder Lohcham finished 5th in PACWEST scoring with 18.9 PPG and finished 4th in rebounding with 7.8 RPG.Lohcham was named Athlete of the Week 3 times.Guard Brody Greig finished 7th in PACWEST scoring with 16.6 PPG; finished 5th in rebounding with 7.5 RPG and led the league in assists with 10.0 APG.Greig was named Athlete of the Week 3 times.

2. Vancouver Island University Mariners (16-5)First round bye. Play Friday at 3:00 pm in the semi-finals vs winner of #3 vs #6.The Mariners were 0-3 against Langara this season, losing 102-85 at Langara, and 89-74 and 76-75 in Nanaimo. They also lost to Quest (88-78) and Capilano (67-62).VIU won the Silver medal in last year’s playoffs.Guard Brandon Jones tied for 1st in PACWEST scoring with 21.5 PPG.Forward Seth Goodman finished 2nd in PACWEST rebounding with 9.57 RPG.Forward Jason Fortin finished 6th in PACWEST rebounding with 7.24 RPG.Guard Brandon Jones finished 4th in PACWEST assists with 4.05 APG.Jones was named Athlete of the Week 2 times.

3. Quest University Kermodes (16-5)Play quarter-final Thursday at 8:00 pm vs #6 Douglas Royals.Quest won the Bronze medal in last year’s playoffs.Quest were the only team to defeat Langara this season, in Week 2 (80-77).Quest lost to VIU twice, Langara twice, and Capilano.Guard Cartiea French-Toney tied for 1st in PACWEST scoring with 21.5 PPG; finished 8th in rebounding with 6.57 RPG; finished 2nd in assists with 6.52 APG.Guard Jose Colorado finished 3rd in PACWEST scoring with 19.21 PPG

4. Capilano University Blues (10-11)Play quarter-final Thursday at 3:00 pm vs #5 Camosun Chargers.The Blues were eliminated in the quarter-finals last season.Capilano did not have a player in the top 10 in league scoring or rebounding.Gino Pagbilao finished 7th in PACWEST assists with 3.1 APG.The Blues defeated the Kermodes 89-86 on the last day of regular season play.

5. Camosun College Chargers (7-14)Play quarter-final Thursday at 3:00 pm vs #4 Capilano Blues.Camosun was eliminated in the quarter-finals last season.The Chargers finished 2-4 in their last 6 games heading into the playoffs.Forward Trevor Scheurmann finished 10th in PACWEST scoring with 15.67 PPG; finished 9th in rebounding with 6.38 RPG.Camosun did not have a player in the top 10 in league assists.

6. Douglas College Royals (7-14)Play quarter-final Thursday at 8:00 pm vs #3 Quest Kermodes.The Royals finished in 4th place last season.The Royals are 1-5 in their last 6 games heading into the playoffs.Grant Campbell finished 8th in PACWEST scoring with 16.48 PPG.Andrew Baron finished 9th in PACWEST scoring with 15.85 PPG.Douglas did not have a player in the top 10 in league rebounding.Andrew Baron finished 5th in PACWEST assists with 3.6 APG.
