Steveston-London - On Monday April 16th, surrounded by his family, old teammates, and classmates in his old high school gym, Fardaws Aimaq would officially sign his commitment to the Mercer University Bears (Div I) in Macon, Georgia.
A graduate of Steveston-London Secondary School, Fardaws decided to attend Bridgton Prep in Portland, Maine this past year to gain more exposure and further develop his skills against top competition south of the border. In his Senior season at SLSS standing six-feet, and eleven inches tall, Fardaws averaged 27.5 points, 17.8 rebounds, 5.8 blocks and 2.5 assists per game including one game where he erupted for 40 points, 34 rebounds and six blocks.
At Bridgton Prep, Aimaq averaged 18.6 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game as a post-graduate student. This was good enough to earn first-team All-League honors in Class AAA of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). While there was lots of interest from Division I schools, Aimaq selected Mercer University based on the player-coach relationships, player-player relationships, and the opportunity to play and make an impact in his very first year on campus.
Founded in 1833, Mercer University is a private university and home to 8,500+ students. The Mercer University Bears play in the Southern Conference of the NCAA (Div I).
