BURNABY, B.C. - On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Nike and NBA Canada decided to bring out NBA legend and former Vancouver Grizzlies star Mike Bibby to the House of Hoops at Metrotown!
This was a great opportunity for the Vancouver basketball community to come out and show themselves to the world as both Nike and NBA cameras were in the room and ready to capture the moment!
Make no mistake - the locals made sure to let the world know that the culture is alive and well here on the west coast. The line-up stretched outside the door and around the corner with fans waiting to get their photo taken, and merchandised signed by the former star.
Mike Bibby was selected 2nd overall in the 1998 NBA draft behind Michael Olowokandi. A draft that subsequently, was held at General Motors Place (now Rogers Arena), the former home of the Vancouver Grizzlies. Bibby helped bring fans out to General Motors Place from 1998 to 2001, before the franchise moved to Memphis, Tennessee and he was traded to the Sacramento Kings for Jason Williams after the 2001 season.
As Vancouver originally gave Bibby a start in his NBA career, it’s great to see the retired Grizzly come back to his roots and show love to the city that is hungrier than ever for the NBA.
A huge thank you to Nike, NBA Canada and Foot Locker for the amazing event.
