Supporting Literacy Week > Stoney Creek Community School
Dylan McFee, Kemo Sonko, Colten Northrop & Mikkel Aarnes were proud SFU Men's Basketball representatives at Stoney Creek Community School last month joining their annual Family Literacy Week. Our players each read to a class of elementary-aged students, shared their journey to SFU, and why reading is so important to life-long learning.
Taryn Briscoe, Stoney's Community School Coordinator, spoke on SFU Men's Basketball's visit, "They were amazing and the kids loved having them visit! It was a very positive experience and all of the teachers said the kids were in awe of having university athletes in their class, they really looked up to them (literally and figuratively) ! We’d love to have you back again..."
Another 1000-point Milestone! > Othniel Spence
Agent Zero, aka Othniel Spence, reached the 1000-point mark last month after scoring 19 points against Western Oregon on Monday, January 20th - a game that was rescheduled due to snow. Othniel joins fellow senior, Michael Provenzano, who reached this milestone on our Hawaii trip on December 21st, 2019. Congrats to these two on their consistency over a university career. Congrats!
Billy Robinson > Former Olympian and SFU Great passes
It is with sadness with announce the passing of SFU Hall of Famer and '76 Olympian Billy Robinson. After a few phone calls with friends - including fellow SFU & Olympic teammate Alex Devlin and former head coach John Lee Kootnekoff - it was easy to see what a special talent and friend he was. A dynamic passer and shooter, Billy was an electric player for our country - one that placed 4th in the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976. His passion an flare for the game was second to none. We want to pass on our sincerest condolences and best wishes to Billy's family.
