Last Dance - Week 1

“They asked if we wanted gifts under the tree for Christmas or go see Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman … we picked the Bulls.”

We all patiently waited and ‘The Last Dance’ did and will surely continue to deliver over the next four weeks. We’ll all be educated and entertained about the 90’s Bulls, their last season and key characters, while taking all the MJ we can get.

We want to share our favourite takeaways each week, drawing from the overarching story, to its more discrete, low key moments.

  • The Bulls intro music, graphics, announcer, followed by the ‘What time is it!?’ huddle break will eternally pump you up.
  • Mike’s style. The shoes, track suits, gold chain, earring … all of it.
  • Such a different time for collegiate athletes, it’s amazing how Jordan’s UNC coach, Dean Smith, had to convince him to enter the draft after his Junior year.
  • Scottie being the equipment manager at UCA before getting his chance and still becoming a Hall of Famer.
  • Jordan’s mom, Deloris, reading his letter back to home from college - apologizing for his high phone bill, asking to send him food stamps, and sharing his bank info as he only had $20 left.
  • Jordan denying Scott Burrell a hug on the bench will never not be funny.
  • Rest in peace to James Jordan, David Stern, Craig Sager and Stuart Scott.
  • Mike rocking a beret with his warm up suit in France.
  • Signage that standing only seats were as cheap as $7 at the old Chicago Stadium.
  • Learning that Jordan played golf with Danny Ainge in between scoring 49 and 63 against the Celtics in the playoffs.
  • Scottie is in the Mount Rushmore of sport voices.
  • Charles Oakley bullying Scottie as a rookie after proclaiming that he’ll be the best on the team.
  • Dennis Rodman’s holiday card to Phil Jackson, dressed as an angel, sitting on his desk - amazing.

We could go on and on.
